More new Steelx is on the way so keep your eyes open for new accouncements!

This event went over so well we may even do it again sometime before Christmas!

Halloween at the RCM

HALLOWEEN AT THE RCM

We had a fun time celebrating the ghost train on Sunday. The kids snuck along the train filled with ghouls and vampires learning a little bit about each car on the ghost train, most importantly which cars to avoid. After tip toeing the length of the train we enjoyed some Halloween games like Witch hat ring toss, eyeball bounce and find the hidden pumpkins. No one left empty handed – each child got a treat bag with prizes and goodies. After the games we watched Cinders and Rosie learn an important Halloween lesson about returning what is not yours and we topped off the day making spooky ghosts out of cheese cloth and spoons.

Below are some photos of the event.

Pictures of the puppets in costume, the ghoulish galley aboard the ghost train, some trains enjoying eye  ball bounce, the spooky spoon ghosts, and our Halloween train crew!

Call for Photos: Train and Coastal Boat Interiors

MV Trepassy

We have a large collection of photos in storage at the RCM, with many shots of trains and coastal boats. Unfortunately, we have only a few photos of the interior of train cars, we have no interior shots of coastal boats, and we have no interior shots of the St. John’s train station (where the museum is located). It is very possible that someone out there has such photos stored somewhere. So, we are putting out a call for these photos. We would love to see them. If you have any images that you would like to share with us, please contact us by phone or e-mail. Just click the “About” button at the top of this page for our contact information.

As part of the City of St. John’s birthday celebrations, Windows on the West End was an overwhelming success. Hundreds of people came out to enjoy a fun-filled day of scavenger hunting, puppet shows, conservation demonstrations, face-painting, music and fabulous food! All taking place in our historic venues. Please revisit your local attractions and enjoy all that the West End of downtown St. John’s has to offer!

Steelx in the Junos

Andrea Hearn, a designer for the Junos, fell in love with the Steelx jewellery that she saw in the Railway Coastal Museum. She loved it so much that she took twenty items for her models  to wear for the planned parenthood fundraiser during Juno week. This took place at the Masonic Temple on Cathedral Street. It was a silent auction and an evening of entertainment from belly dancing to singing to viewing up and coming film makers. This was very exciting for us and we also donated a piece of Preciosa for the silent auction. We love to be involved in community affairs in any way we can. This promoted our museum and our Steelx jewellery. It was an awesome event.

'o' seriesLaBrea changes its Steelx line from season to season. We get new products in our flyers around late November,in the Summer and in the Fall. Our newest catalogue has what is called the ‘o’ series, the Mecanix for men and the Cobalt Blue line .Steelx has added the cobalt blue with steel and it is very eye popping. We have earrings, some rings and some bangles in this color. The Mecanix for men is all about designing your own bracelet or necklace. You choose which pendant to add and we have many to choose from. The ‘o’ series features dangly ‘o’ earrings and long necklaces with ‘o’s ….very interesting and unique.

“Little Toot” Birthday Parties

It’s been a great season once again for our children’s birthday parties here at the museum. Boys and girls alike enjoy the train-themed party in a real train station. Between “waking up the model train” and the puppet show with Cinders the Moose, we hope to spark the interest of our young visitors in their local museum.

Volunteer Appreciation Day

Anyone remember the Trouter's Special?

On May 5, the Railway Coastal Museum held Volunteer Appreciation Day for the men and women who worked on railway and coastal boat services in Newfoundland, and who now generously give their time to enrich visitors’ experiences at the museum. By sharing their unique memories, they bring life to the museum’s exhibits and give us a better understanding of what it was like not only to work for the railway and the coastal boats, but also what it was like to live in Newfoundland and Labrador when the province relied so heavily on those services. For being so kind, generous, and helpful, we owe our volunteers much gratitude.

Our volunteers:  Charlie Chaytor, June Churchill, Wayne Greenland, Larry Hickey, Graham Hill, Rod Keeping, Fabian Kennedy, Cliff Langdon, Jim Maddigan, Ron McCarthy, Alban Murphy, Charlie Murphy, Gerry Murphy, Bill Nelson, Anne Peddle, Ralph Peddle, Bill Penney, Harold Piercey, Captain Joe Prim, Joe Sheehan, Robert Stacey, and Dave Trask.
